Why prestige and supercar parts need sourcing

The cars at the top of the market are built in small numbers, with parts made in small batches, distributed through a small number of dealers. That is the whole problem. A genuine panel, lamp or module for a low-volume prestige model may be held in only a handful of locations worldwide, quoted at a price that reflects it, and subject to a lead time the dealer cannot control. Independent specialists and bodyshops that look after these vehicles need a route to the same genuine part that does not depend on a single UK dealer's stock.

Prestige and luxury marques

For prestige saloons, SUVs and grand tourers the common requests are body panels and bumpers, lighting, glazing, wheels, interior trim in a specific leather and finish, and the electronic modules and sensors that a modern luxury vehicle carries in quantity. We identify each part against the VIN — option-dependent variants are the rule rather than the exception on these vehicles — and search UK and international supplier contacts for the same genuine number.

Performance vehicles

Performance derivatives share a platform with a mainstream model and then diverge in exactly the parts that get damaged or worn: brakes, suspension, cooling, aerodynamic body parts, wheels and drivetrain components. The mainstream part number is often close but wrong. We confirm the performance-specific number from the VIN and source it, and we flag when a component has been superseded by a revised design. Supercars

Supercar parts sourcing is where lead times and prices are most extreme and where the difference between a genuine part and anything else matters most to the vehicle's value. Carbon-fibre and composite body parts, lighting, glazing, wheels, brake components, interior trim and control modules are the usual requests. Many of these parts are supplied only against a VIN, and some are produced to order; we tell you at the outset which applies and what the realistic lead time from the source is. If the part is genuinely unobtainable new, we discuss whether a genuine used part from a specialist is acceptable — described as exactly that.

Genuine, described accurately

On a prestige or supercar repair the customer, the insurer and sometimes the vehicle's warranty all care whether a part is genuine. Every part we quote is described by its actual category — genuine, OEM/OES or otherwise — and genuine parts are supplied in manufacturer packaging with the manufacturer's part number. Lead times and made-to-order parts

Prestige and supercar parts are supplied differently from mass-market ones, and the difference shows up in lead times. Some are held centrally by the manufacturer rather than at dealers, and shipped on demand. Some — carbon-fibre and composite body parts, certain interior trim, some lighting units — are produced to order, with a lead time set by the manufacturer's production schedule rather than by anyone's stock. Some are VIN-restricted, meaning they are supplied only against a specific vehicle.

We tell you which applies to each part when we quote, with the realistic lead time from the source, so a customer or insurer can be given a date that will hold. Where a made-to-order lead time is unacceptable for the job, we discuss whether a genuine used part from a specialist is a reasonable option — described as exactly that — or whether the repair can be sequenced so that the long-lead item does not hold everything else.

Genuine parts and vehicle value

On a car whose value depends on originality, the category of every part fitted matters long after the repair is finished. Provenance files, pre-purchase inspections and specialist valuations look for evidence that genuine parts were used, and a repair carried out with non-genuine panels or components can affect the car's value and its acceptance by marque specialists and clubs.

For that reason we default to genuine on prestige and supercar work and describe any alternative in writing before it is fitted. We also recommend that the bodyshop or specialist keeps our quotation and the parts packaging with the vehicle's records. It costs nothing at the time and answers questions later.
